Topic: Be Ye Not Unequally YokedText: 2 Corinthians 6:14 KJV "
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?"
To be unequally yoked is a term that most of us are familiar with as believers. It is very often associated with God's desire for His children not to get into ungodly relationships. However, the truth encapsulated in that scripture transcends mere interpersonal relationships.
It actually reflects God's desire for his children to live a life that is distinct from what is obtainable in the world. God desires that no aspect of our lives should conform with the worldliness around us. We're called to stand out for Christ.
Apostle Peter clearly captures this truth thus:
1 Peter 2:9
"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light"We're a special breed of people. We belong to the God-class. We have been called into the family of God as sons. This new identity requires that we should live a life that fully and truly represents it.
It is a shame and an eyesore to heaven to see a believer engaged in the same manner of life, thought, speech, actions as an unsaved person. You can't be unequally yoked. It doesn't match. How can righteousness speak and behave like unrighteousness? How can light live like darkness?
God is calling us to become conscious of our new identity in Christ. God calls us righteousness, light, Christ, and the temple of His Spirit. This identity doesn't just confer only privileges on you; it also confers a responsibility to live in line with our new status.
Check your life right now. Are there things that agree with the works of darkness in your life? If there are, ask God to help you, and consciously take steps to walk away from such life.
Action Point: Live a life that agrees with your new identity in Christ.Prayer point:
Father, my eyes are opened to who I am in Christ Jesus and help me to live in the light of this truth. AmenI wish you a Friday full of bliss and blessings.
