Topic: Forgetting the Past
Text: Philippians 3:13
"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before"
Several of us didn't have any perfect past before meeting Christ. The truth is that no matter how good or bad our past life was before Christ, it is nothing to be compared to the surpassing glory we have now in Christ Jesus.
"For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth"
2 Corinthians 3:10
It is important that we recognize and acknowledge that the past has passed. It is no longer in existence. God has moved you beyond that experience. He has brought into a whole new experience in Christ Jesus.
You can't walk in the fullness of this new life if you don't let go of the old. There is no one who drives a car forward looking backward. It will only lead to an accident.
Your past might be filled with hurt, failures, regretful actions, abuse, disappointments, delay and many more of such things that makes your heart to bleed when you remember them. Yet, God saw those things, but he loved you still and called you to Himself.
Despite your past, God saw that you were worth saving and you were worth every drop of the precious blood of Jesus. So He left his throne of Majesty on high to die a shameful death on the cross for you. Through His death, he has rolled away your dark past and brought into his Glory.
"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not."
1 John 3:1 KJV
People naturally pay so much for valuable objects. God saw how valuable to him so he was willing to sacrifice his precious and only son for you on the cross of Calvary. I want to let you know that you are of great value to God.
I encourage you to bask in the love of God for you. Look beyond the past to the glorious future that God has made available for you in Christ.
Action Point: Acknowledge that the past is in the past. Move on into the glorious future God has for you. Forgive yourself because God has forgiven your past wrongs in Christ.
Prayer point: Lord I receive grace to move forward. I won't let my past hinder me anymore.
